ESCR-Net sent a collective letter to the government of the Philippines regarding; the recent extrajudicial killings of nine human rights defenders and arrests of at least four others, now being referred to as the Bloody Sunday incidents, as well as the recent arrest of Karapatan paralegal Renalyn Tejero, and the false murder charges/defamation facing Karapatan chairperson Elisa “Tita” Lubi and Karapatan – Southern Mindanao Region Jayvee Apiag.

Amidst the global care crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Women and ESCR working group have outlined and begun advocating a framework for a feminist and human rights-based social pact on care.  

On the occasion of the 2021 World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings  (22 March -11 April 2021), members of the Economic Policy working group called on the IMF to cancel and restructure debt for low and middle income countries and prioritize human rights and social protection, among other demands for a a just, equitable and sustainable recovery.

On 4 March, ESCR-Net members participated in the event presentation of the first episode of the comic series “The Power of the 99% to Stop Corporate Capture.”

The Monitoring Working Group has been working on a collective position on data and ESCR to challenge dominant narratives about what types of data count in public decision-making.  

The Networkwide Project on Environment & ESCR has released a mapping report: On Climate Justice and Human Rights: Reflections from ESCR-Net members. The report synthesizes the evolving analysis of ESCR-Net members at the intersection of climate justice and human rights, documented through more than 40 direct interviews with members.
