🤲 SIGN THIS LETTER | The #quilombola community of Santa Rosa dos Pretos, in the state of Maranhão, in #Brazil, have faced systematic denial of their right to education, health and land ownership. ✊🏿 Today, we launched this international solidarity action alongside “Justiça nos Trilhos and the community that demands respect and recognition of their territory and protection guarantees for threatened community leaders. 🫂 SIGN THIS LETTER now to demand that Paulo Teixeira, Minister of Agrarian Development; Silvio Almeida, Minister of Human Rights and Anielle Francisco da Silva, Minister of Racial Equality convene a public hearing to listen to the community. ‼️ Despite their ancestral ties to the land, dating back over 300 years, the community has been deprived of formal land titles, hindering their ability to secure tenure and perpetuating insecurity and vulnerability. 🚨 Santa Rosa dos Pretos leaders constantly face threats, residents are prevented from accessing fishing areas, and there are cases of criminalization of their resistance processes. #KENYA 🇰🇪 : 🔔Happening Next Tuesday🔔 #InactionIsInjustice The repeated failure of the Kenyan government to implement the decision of the African Commission and Court in the #Endorois and the #Ogiek cases, respectively, deepens decades of inequality, violations, and neglect. 📅 Next Tuesday, February 6th, more than 30 community representatives and activists will gather in #Nairobi to take action against violations committed by the Kenyan government against the rights of ancestral communities. 🚨Despite strong judgments issued by international courts requiring the government to make reparations to the #Ogiek and #Endorois communities for forcibly displacing them from their lands in the pursuit of tourism and conservation projects, the Kenyan government persists in denying these communities the right to return to their ancestral homes and refuses reparations for their forced eviction. #InactionIsInjustice “Kenia: Endorois and Ogiek Reparations Can't Wait Longer” Help us spread the word: https://lnkd.in/eZsBDEZQ Endorois Indigenous Women Empowerment Network | Minority Rights Group | endorois welfare council | Ogiek Peoples' Development Program (OPDP)

🌐 OUR COP28 REACTION: Lost and Damaged, Swallowed by Corporate Capture and False Climate Solutions 🌐 COP28 outcomes reveal a harsh reality. Agreements, seen by some as historic, are viewed by ESCR-Net members as just another set of false solutions where polluters and the market continue to exploit the planet and our peoples. The path laid forward perpetuates climate chaos and debt for impoverished countries. The operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund, a culmination of 30 years of efforts, falls short with insufficient pledges totaling 770.6 million USD. Corporate capture is exposed as COP28 hosts 2,400 fossil fuel lobbyists, a 400% increase from 2022. Concerns grow about interference in decision-making. Moreover, the oppression of civil society and restrictions on freedom of speech raise alarms. Our members emphasize that it's a critical moment demanding accountability and genuine global action. 🖇 Read our members' reactions: https://lnkd.in/ewEPJHRY
